My Resume
A climate friendly
neighbourhood concept
4 weeks, 2018
The municipality of Lund is building a large new neighborhood to accommodate the new science village and recent population growth. Lund was looking for innovative digital solutions to tackle issues such as increasing traffic.
The final design concept was inspired by local social sharing practices observed during field research. How might the strong local community in the nearby neighborhood be replicated to establish a new community, while considering environmental concerns?
My Role:
Design Research, Prototyping, User Testing
Design Process
Lund municipality did not specify design problems and hence, inspiration for a design opportunity had to derive from intensive field research. As the target users were not yet living in the neighborhood, field research had to be tackled differently.
The question was how the neighbourhood Djinghis Khan grew to become such strong old community? Which elements can be replicated for Brunnshog? Semi-structured interviews with residents and observations of local community interactions plus researching about the local traffic situation identified that sharing was a crucial element in creating that community.

Inspired by the social sharing practices in the old neighbourhood, a ride-sharing app was conceptualized to addresses concerns about rising car traffic and to develop community interaction between new and old residents in Brunnshög. Car parks for the area will be located centrally, which opened an opportunity for ride-sharing. In user testing with representatives of the Djinghis Khan neighborhood, the concept was tested and iterated in two rounds. The concept adds to the municipality’s goal of minimizing car traffic, favoring public transport, bikes and pedestrian traffic. When presenting the idea to Lunds municipality, strong interest was voiced for the idea.
